Who hasn't been in the kitchen with Grandma as she momentarily forgets about hot pads and tries to grab a hot dish off of the warm oven and she exclaims 'Uff-Da!'?  Maybe anyone who hasn't grown up with Scandinavian grandparents.  You'll hear this phrase still uttered in the North and for good reason:  to save us from hearing Grandma curse.
