Midsommer Magic ~ Golden Light & Good Folk
"On the longest day, the sun forgets to sleep — and so do we." ~ Poet Unknown
Nordic Midsommer ~ The Midnight Sun
Scandinavians have celebrated the summer solstice - Midsommer- for centuries. Gathering near water, lighting bonfires, feasting on fresh and simple food. It's flower crowns woven from whatever's growing nearby. The energy is electric, the light is endless, and the Nordics have always known how to honor both.
The summer solstice is the longest day of the year — the moment when the sun reaches its highest point and daylight peaks. Throughout Scandinavia, the sun barely sets & above the Arctic Circle, it doesn't actually set at all — just a long, golden twilight that stretches through the night.
How to Bring It Home
You don't need a fjord to feel it (though it helps). Midsommar is a mindset — slow down, go outside, gather your people, and let the sun's energy be enough.
- Lounge on a blanket or wool seat pad near water and watch the glistening ripples
- Prepare something simple and share it — think strawberries, new potatoes, fresh dill, and herring
- Pick up flowers at the farmers market (or your backyard) and weave a floral crown
- Light candles even though it's still bright out
- Eat every meal outdoors for the day
- Stay out later than you should
The midnight sun doesn't check your passport. Midsommar's joy of the longest day is everyone's to celebrate.
The Scandihoo Way
Our Nordic textiles like wool seat pads, or birch wood trays and scandi-foods were made for exactly this kind of evening. An all-night fika anyone?
